The issue of biolabs on the territory of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) raises concerns among some of its members. CSTO Secretary-General Stanislav Zas stated this on Monday at a press conference on the results of the organization's activities in 2022.
"This topic did not emerge now, but quite a long time ago. Of course, the topic of security in the light of the activities of existing biolabs was discussed more than once <...>", - he pointed out. - "I am not hiding it, it causes certain suspicion and apprehension among some of our CSTO member states. Of course, this topic should be taken up by the coordination council, where specialists from our states should also be represented."
According to Zas, the catalyst for the CSTO to address the topic of biosafety is the coronavirus pandemic. "You remember how it all started, how incomprehensible and dangerous it was for all of us. It's clear now that no one guarantees that such pandemics will not recur. Perhaps in other forms," he added. - "If this is our goal to ensure the safety of our peoples and states from today's challenges and threats, we cannot ignore these real threats that have manifested themselves."
