Egyptian Defense Minister heads to Moscow to discuss military cooperation with Russia

Egyptian Defense and Military Industry Minister Mohammed Ahmed Zaki headed to Moscow on Sunday at the head of a high-level military delegation. The official spokesman for the Arab republic's Armed Forces, Gharib Abdel Hafez Gharib, made the announcement on his official Twitter page.


According to him, "the visit will last several days as part of strengthening military relations between the two friendly countries." "It is planned that Mohammed Zaki will take part in a joint Egyptian-Russian commission on military and technical cooperation <...> to discuss a number of topics of mutual interest as well as support for military cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries," the official said.


Joint exercises of the Defenders of Friendship airborne troops are planned for autumn in Egypt.


In January, the treaty signed in 2018 between Russia and Egypt on comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation entered into force. The document provides for further strengthening of Russian-Egyptian cooperation in political, trade and economic, cultural and other areas, defines mechanisms for deepening coordination between Moscow and Cairo at various levels.
