Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty confirmed to TASS that Russia received an invitation to the Gaza summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, though the event's tight preparation timeline posed challenges.
“Of course [Russia was invited]. Russia, along with China, was invited, and we value their support for the rights of Palestinians. We cannot overlook major countries like Russia and China,” Abdelatty stated, adding, “I remain in constant contact with my dear friends [Russian Foreign Minister] Sergey Lavrov and [Chinese Foreign Minister] Wang Yi.”
The Egyptian diplomat noted the summit was organized under an extremely tight schedule. “All countries were notified at very short notice. This global summit was put together in just 48 hours, and due to time constraints, the invitation to Russia was indeed sent, though too late,” the foreign minister explained.
