Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty conveyed President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s warm greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting in Cairo with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, a TASS correspondent reported.

“First of all, I would like to pass on the best wishes of President el-Sisi to his dear friend, President Putin. We highly value our excellent relations,” the minister said.

He stressed that Egypt and Russia enjoy a strategic partnership. “We are pleased with the pace of its development in recent years, and we want to take it further,” Abdelatty added. “We are fully committed to strengthening our ties not only on the political level, but also in trade, investment, industry, food security, energy and other areas.”

Overchuk, in turn, highlighted the importance of major joint projects. “We view construction of the El Dabaa nuclear power plant and the establishment of the Russian Industrial Zone near the Suez Canal as priority, strategic projects. We also share a common understanding that Russian investment in the industrial zone will create a gateway for Russian businesses to enter Egypt and Africa as a whole. As we know, Egypt is connected through a vast network of free trade agreements with different regions of the world,” the deputy prime minister noted.

Following the meeting with the foreign minister, Overchuk also held talks with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
