Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan underscored the vital necessity of purging Syrian territory of terrorist elements during a telephone conversation with Syria's interim president, Ahmed al-Sharaa.
According to a statement from the Turkish presidential office, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and the evolving situation on the ground.
"President Erdoğan emphasized that Turkey attaches great importance to the territorial integrity, unity, and stability of Syria," the Turkish presidential office reported. "He stated that the complete liberation of Syrian lands from terrorism is essential not only for Syria’s future but for the security of the entire region."
The Turkish leader further noted that Ankara’s support for Syria, particularly in its counter-terrorism efforts, will continue to intensify in the coming period.
The high-level exchange follows a Syrian military offensive against the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the subsequent announcement of a ceasefire agreement reached between the parties on January 18.
