Expert Suggests Potential US-IS Cooperation to Destabilize Russia Post-Elections

25 March

Sun Qi, the Executive Director of the Center for Russia and Central Asia Studies at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, told TASS about the possibility of the United States reestablishing cooperation with the Islamic State terrorist organization (IS, banned in Russia) to sow social unrest in Russia following the recent elections.

"While the Islamic State organization's relationship with the United States has been strained, it cannot be discounted that the US might pragmatically cooperate with IS again to undermine social stability in Russia following [Vladimir] Putin's reelection. Additionally, even if the recent terrorist attack in the Moscow region was not directly orchestrated by the United States, it doesn't preclude the involvement of other Western entities. The fact that the US embassy in Moscow issued a warning about the terrorist threat as early as March 7 suggests foreknowledge on their part," the expert stated.

The March 22 terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk resulted in significant casualties, with 137 reported deaths and a potentially rising number of victims, as per the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. The Ministry of Health of the Moscow region confirmed 182 injuries.
