23 August 2022

The volume of food exports from Tajikistan to the Sverdlovsk region is expected to increase approximately two to three times in 2023. This was reported to TASS by Yakubzhan Umarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Advisory Council at the Consulate General of the Republic of Tajikistan in Ekaterinburg.

Earlier, a Tajik delegation headed by the director of the Export Agency visited Ekaterinburg. It was reported that the republic is interested in increasing exports of fruit and vegetable products, and the Khatlon region is ready to conclude an agreement on cooperation.

"A delegation from Tajikistan visited the Sverdlovsk region [during the Innoprom exhibition in Yekaterinburg], there were representatives from different areas. They signed an agreement with several entrepreneurs on the supply of salt, vegetables, fruit and dried fruits - it is already working," he said, specifying that the volume of food exports is planned to increase by about two or three times next year.

Among other things, he said, a special refrigerated warehouse is being built in Tajikistan to increase trade. "Refrigerators are needed so that crops can be harvested and not go bad, and from there they are already sent here [to the Sverdlovsk region]," Umarov said.

TASS reported earlier that the value of the foreign trade turnover of the Ural Federal District (UFD) with the Republic of Tajikistan in the first half of this year exceeded $70 million, imports increased by 125% compared to the same period last year. Among the main goods are food products and raw materials for their production. By the end of 2021 the total volume of trade between the Sverdlovsk region and Tajikistan amounted to $50 million.
