Foreign Ministry: Russia counts on further development of relations with Senegal

Russia counts on further fruitful cooperation and expansion of bilateral interaction with Senegal. This is stated in a statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the independence of the African republic.


"Russian-Senegalese relations have a stable friendly character and are developing steadily. Last year Senegal has become our country's largest trade and economic partner in West Africa. We wholeheartedly share the desire of the official Dakar to expand the entire spectrum of bilateral cooperation, "- the message says.


As the ministry stressed, the Soviet Union has consistently supported and assisted the people's liberation movements of Africa. "Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, our cooperation has only strengthened," Smolensk Square added.


The Russian Foreign Ministry wished success, peace, prosperity and well-being to the friendly people of Senegal and expressed confidence that the bilateral ties between the countries will continue to strengthen.


Independence Day is celebrated annually in the Republic of Senegal on April 4, when in 1960 on this day the independence of the country from France was declared. Diplomatic relations between the USSR and Senegal were established on June 14, 1962.
