Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Nayef Falah al-Hajraf condemned the terrorist attack at the Russian embassy in Kabul. A statement to this effect was published Monday on the organization's website.
"H.E. Nayef Falah al-Hajraf, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, condemned the explosion near the Russian embassy in Kabul, which killed and wounded several people, including diplomats," the statement read. - "The secretary-general reaffirmed the GCC's strong position against acts of violence, terrorism and extremism, and expressed his condolences to the Russian Federation and Afghanistan in connection with the victims of the explosion and wished a speedy recovery to the injured."
Earlier, the foreign ministry of Saudi Arabia condemned the terrorist attack at the Russian embassy. Similar statements were made by the foreign ministries of several Arab countries, including Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and the UAE.
The Russian MFA said Monday that an unidentified person detonated an explosive device in the morning near the entrance to the consular section of the Russian embassy in Kabul, killing two members of the diplomatic mission. The ministry noted that the embassy is in close contact with the special services of Afghanistan.
According to Al Jazeera, at least eight people were killed in the blast, and at least 15 more were wounded. According to Al-Arabiya, the explosion was carried out by a suicide bomber, who approached the gates of the Russian diplomatic mission and was shot dead by the Taliban. The Afghan newspaper Hasht-e Subh specified that at the time of the explosion there were Afghans (mostly students) outside the Russian embassy who had applied to its consular department for Russian visas.
