Yuri Ladygin, who served as the Head of the Far Eastern Customs Directorate (FECD), has been appointed as the head of the representative office of the Russian Customs Service in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The appointment was made by the Federal Customs Service of Russia and took effect on July 19, 2023. Concurrently, Lieutenant General Sergei Berezin has been designated as the acting head of the Far Eastern Customs Directorate.
During his tenure as the head of the FECD, which started in June 2015, Yuri Ladygin achieved significant milestones. Under his leadership, the customs authorities of the Far East region processed over 3 million declarations for goods, contributing more than 3.44 trillion rubles to the state budget. Notably, the customs authorities also made substantial contributions to law enforcement, detecting and investigating more than 1.5 thousand crimes and approximately 100 thousand offenses related to customs affairs.
The Far Eastern Customs Directorate, under Ladygin's guidance, experienced remarkable growth in trade. Last year, the turnover of goods passing through the customs units of the Far East increased by 50%. This year's growth trajectory has sustained its positive momentum, surpassing the records set in 2022.
The Far East region plays a pivotal role in Russia's international trade, particularly in its dealings with China. Notably, Primorsky Krai is home to some of the largest sea and land border crossing points on the border with China. These key points include the ports of Vladivostok and Vostochny Port in the city of Nakhodka, as well as the road border crossing points "Pogranichny" and "Poltavka" in the settlement of Kraskino, in addition to the railway border crossing point. In total, the Far East region operates 59 active land and sea border crossing points.
