Heads of the border services of SCO countries convened in Almaty, Kazakhstan, to discuss strategies for combating terrorism. The National Security Committee of Kazakhstan reported that during the 9th meeting of heads of border services and competent bodies of SCO member states, various topics were addressed. These included the assessment of the state of affairs on the state borders of SCO member states, the evaluation of joint border operations, the formulation of work plans for 2024, and the development of collective measures to counter current challenges such as terrorism, weapon and drug smuggling, illegal migration, and other related threats.
Representatives from the border services of Kazakhstan, India, Iran, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan were in attendance, along with observers from Belarus and Mongolia. Additionally, the SCO RAST and the Council of Border Guard Commanders of CIS member states also participated in the event.
It is worth noting that Kazakhstan will assume the chairmanship of the SCO for the period of 2023-2024.
