Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should agree on the regime of inspections at nuclear facilities, otherwise it will be difficult to reach an agreement on the nuclear deal, Rafael Grossi, the IAEA Director-General, said on Saturday following talks with Mohammad Eslami, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, in the Iranian capital.
"If Iran and the IAEA do not resolve the issue of inspections, it will not be easy to reach an agreement on the nuclear deal," the Mehr news agency quoted him as saying. Grossi added that "mutual understanding is crucial for cooperation." He said it was "regrettable that some members [of the agency] do not respect the regime of secrecy with regard to cooperation between Iran and the IAEA".
On February 8, the eighth round of talks resumed in Vienna after a break to restore the nuclear deal to its original form and bring the US back into the multilateral agreement. The work is being carried out both within the framework of the Joint Commission between Iran and Russia, Britain, Germany, China, and France and in the format of separate consultations with the United States without the participation of Tehran, which is not yet ready for a direct dialogue with the US side. The negotiators have already agreed to speed up the process of working on the draft agreement. It is expected that the eighth round could be the last.
