The leadership of Pakistan's opposition Justice Movement (JM) party will be arrested if an investigation proves it was involved in the instigating remarks of senior party member Shahbaz Gill, The Frontier Post reported on Friday, citing a statement by Rana Sanaullah, the Islamic Republic's interior minister.
The interior minister said he believed that the criticism of the ruling coalition and the army on ARY News television was a planned political action by the JM. "As soon as the investigation is completed and the evidence points to them (the leadership of the Justice Movement - TASS), they will be arrested, as well as measures will be taken against the TV channel," the newspaper quotes the minister as saying.
On August 9, a senior member of the opposition Justice Movement party, Shahbaz Gill, was arrested on charges of sedition for criticizing Pakistan's ruling coalition and the army on the television channel ARY News. By order of the authorities, the channel's broadcasting was suspended in the capital Islamabad and major cities such as Karachi, Lahore, Sialkot, etc.
