Iran is committed to bolstering its relationship with Russia and resolving any disputes through mutual cooperation, Iran's First Vice President, Mohammad Reza Aref, said during talks with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
“I am very pleased with the pace at which our relations are developing at all levels. I would like to stress that the new Iranian government is firmly committed to strengthening our ties,” Aref stated.
He highlighted that collaboration with Russia is a priority for Iran's foreign policy. “In the new government, we are advocating for a pragmatic approach, aiming to bring negotiations to a successful conclusion and to ensure that the agreements signed are implemented as soon as possible,” Aref said. He also pointed out that the shared experience of both countries in countering unlawful Western sanctions necessitates close cooperation between Iran and Russia across all levels and directions.
Aref further emphasized the importance of enhancing regional cooperation in all sectors with Russia, which he described as a friend. “Even on contentious issues, such as the Zangezur transport corridor, we need to work with our Russian friends. We stress that any change in borders will lead to instability and provide grounds for interference by non-regional powers,” Aref noted.
Regarding economic cooperation, the vice president reminded that the current trade turnover between the two countries stands at €2.5 million. He expressed hope that joint efforts would help elevate this figure to “a worthy level.”
Before the talks began, Aref condemned the “crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza and Lebanon” and underscored that Russia’s constructive stance in the UN Security Council could be effective in efforts to stabilize the situation.
