Tehran is ready to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear deal in the near future, but on the condition that Western partners are willing to make "the necessary political decisions," Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali said on Thursday at a discussion at the Gorchakov Foundation for the Support of Public Diplomacy.
"At this time, as I speak to you, our colleagues in Vienna, of course, are faced with the double games of Western states regarding text and time. I would like to stress that we are ready to reach a good agreement in the shortest possible time, but this is subject to the willingness of the opposite side to make the necessary political decisions," Jalali said.
According to the diplomat, Iran during the new rounds of talks has been very serious and benevolent in presenting various initiatives to reach agreements. "What Iran envisages in these [current] talks is absolutely logical and fair and consists of lifting all sanctions, providing necessary guarantees in commitment to all commitments," the ambassador added.
The eighth round of talks is underway in Vienna to restore the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran's nuclear program) to its original form and return the US to this multilateral agreement. The work is carried out through consultations of the Joint Commission of Iran and the Five (Russia, Britain, Germany, China and France), separate consultations with the US without the participation of the Islamic republic, as well as in the format of three working groups. The negotiators are working on a draft final agreement. It is believed that the eighth round could be the last.
State Department spokesman Ned Price said Wednesday that an agreement on the Iran nuclear deal is close, but a number of difficult topics remain open.
