The current US administration should learn from its predecessor and not miss the chance to strike a good deal from the Vienna talks to lift sanctions on Iran and revive the 2015 nuclear deal, Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said Thursday.
"The strategy of active resistance [pursued by Iran against the United States] has led to a victory over the policy of maximum pressure [by Washington on Tehran], which the current US administration recognizes," Shamkhani was quoted by the Tasnim news agency as saying. - "If the talks in Vienna do not end with a good deal, the current US administration will soon realize its defeat and the missed opportunities to use diplomatic methods".
The eighth round of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) talks is concluding in Vienna with the goal of restoring the JCPOA to its original form and bringing the U.S. back into this multilateral agreement. The work is taking place through consultations of the Joint Commission of Iran and the Five (Russia, Britain, Germany, China and France), separate consultations with the US without the Islamic Republic, as well as in the format of three working groups. The negotiators are working on a draft final agreement. It is assumed that the eighth round could be the last; the negotiators are determined to finish the work in the near future.
