Iran has called on West and Central Asian countries to cooperate to improve environmental conditions and food security, Iranian Vice President and Head of the Ministry of Environment Ali Salajegheh stated.
"We are also very aware that we need to cooperate with other countries, especially those in West and Central Asia, to improve environmental conditions and food security," he said during the international conference "Partnership for Food Security in the Face of Climate Change" held in Ashgabat.
Salajegheh added that Iran and Turkmenistan had earlier concluded a bilateral agreement in the field of ecology, which represents "a good basis for future cooperation." "And we are ready to sign more similar memorandums with countries in the region and beyond," he said.
The international conference "Partnership for Food Security in the Face of Climate Change" is being held in Ashgabat March 9-10. Among its participants are agriculture ministers of Central Asia and Iran, UN representatives, and international experts.
