Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, has called on the UN Security Council to condemn threats made by US President Donald Trump against Tehran, arguing that they constitute a violation of international law.
"Since taking office in January 2025, the US president has consistently disregarded and violated the international norms and principles upon which the United Nations is founded. His repeated threats to use force against sovereign nations set a dangerous precedent in international relations," Iravani stated in a letter to the Security Council.
He expressed particular concern over the fact that the United States, as a permanent member of the Security Council, is openly ignoring its obligations under the UN Charter, using military power as a tool of coercion to advance political and geopolitical objectives.
"In light of these serious violations, the Islamic Republic of Iran urges the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibility to maintain international peace and security by unequivocally condemning the US president’s threats as a breach of international law and the UN Charter, and by demanding that the United States adhere to its legal obligations under international law," the letter read.
