Iranian Ambassador to Russia: US Actions in Iran Aim to Fuel Religious Hatred

04 March

The assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei represents a blatant effort to incite religious hatred, Kazem Jalali, the Iranian Ambassador to Russia, said in an article written for TASS.

"Beyond the legal implications, an attack on a high-ranking religious figure is a clear example of inciting religious hatred and a premeditated insult to the feelings of followers of divine religions," Jalali wrote.

The head of the diplomatic mission also addressed the legal violations involved in the operation. He noted that the actions taken by the United States and Israel lacked any legal justification under the framework of self-defense, as defined by Article 51 of the UN Charter. Consequently, he asserted that both nations intentionally violated the legal and personal immunity of the Islamic Republic’s highest-ranking official.

Jalali emphasized that under international law, international conventions, and established judicial practice, heads of state enjoy absolute immunity from assault, particularly within the territory that symbolizes their national sovereignty. He concluded that the attack constitutes a gross violation of fundamental international norms regarding the prevention and punishment of crimes against internationally protected persons.
