Iranian Foreign Minister: Netanyahu Aims to Derail Tehran–Washington Agreement

17 June

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s true goal in attacking Iran is to sabotage an emerging agreement between Tehran and Washington, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on the platform X.

“Benjamin Netanyahu is a wanted war criminal. He is also a fraud who has misled US presidents into fighting his wars for nearly three decades,” Araghchi wrote.

He added that “all indications point to the fact that the criminal assault by Netanyahu on Iran—killing hundreds of innocent civilians, including women and children—was aimed at derailing the agreement between Iran and the United States, toward which we were making steady progress. He is once again taking another American president—and more and more US taxpayers—for complete fools.”

Araghchi emphasized that Iran’s “powerful armed forces are making it clear to the world that war criminals hiding in shelters in Tel Aviv will not go unpunished. We will continue to strike the cowards for as long as necessary to ensure they no longer fire on our people.”

Israel launched Operation “Rising Lion” in the early hours of June 13, targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Less than a day later, the Islamic Republic carried out a retaliatory strike. In the following days, both countries exchanged further attacks. Each side reported casualties and damage to several sites within their respective territories, but described the overall impact as limited.

A new round of nuclear talks between Iranian and US delegations was scheduled for June 15 in Muscat, Oman. However, the meeting was canceled.
