Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev extended an official invitation to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to visit Russia in early 2025 during a meeting in Tehran. Savelyev conveyed "warm greetings" from Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, emphasizing Russia's readiness to facilitate the visit.
According to the Iranian presidential press service, Savelyev expressed Moscow's commitment to organizing the trip. The meeting was attended by Russian officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, Transport Minister Roman Starovoit, and Russian Railways CEO Oleg Belozerov.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on December 23 that Pezeshkian's visit could occur before January 19, 2025. During the visit, the presidents of Russia and Iran are expected to sign a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement.
This agreement is anticipated to mark a significant milestone in Russia-Iran relations, covering various sectors such as defense, energy, transportation, industry, agriculture, culture, science, and technology. It is intended to expand upon the 2001 Treaty on the Foundations of Relations and Principles of Cooperation between the two nations, providing a broader framework for bilateral engagement.
