Iran will not starve if the United States decides to pull out of negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program and imposes even harsher sanctions, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated.
“It’s simply not true that we’ll die of hunger if they refuse to talk to us and hit us with more sanctions. We will find a way,” the president was quoted as saying by Iran’s IRNA news agency. He emphasized that, in such a scenario, Iranians must stand united and work together.
The comments come after the fifth round of nuclear talks between Iran and the US, which took place in Rome on May 23. The foreign minister of Oman, who is mediating the negotiations, described the outcome as “some progress, though not yet final.” His Iranian counterpart confirmed that both sides are preparing for a new round of discussions, expressing hope that one or two more meetings could lead to meaningful results.
