Iran has no intention of starting a war but will respond decisively to any military aggression directed against it, Amir Saied Iravani, the Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN, said in a formal letter addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the President of the UN Security Council for February, James Kariuki.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly stated at the highest level that it seeks neither tension nor war and will not initiate one," the letter stated, according to a copy provided to TASS by the Iranian mission to the UN. "However, in the event of military aggression, Iran will act decisively in the exercise of its inherent right under Article 51 of the UN Charter."
