The Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, the elite units of Iran's Armed Forces) arrested 12 instigators of riots in the North of Iran, ISNA news agency reported on Tuesday.
"The IRGC's intelligence organization in Gilan province has identified and arrested 12 militants of two groups who were organizing unrest," the agency quoted a statement from the organization as saying. - "They recruited participants of disorders and organized subversive actions."
According to the intelligence agency, the subversive organizations were planning attacks on important governmental and law enforcement facilities, preparing to resume unrest in Rasht.
In recent days, there have been riots in various cities of Iran following the funeral of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. According to the official version, this Kurdish girl was detained by the morality police because she was wearing a headscarf improperly. When questioned, she had a heart attack, from which she died. On social media, however, it was reported that Amini was beaten by police officers.
