Joint Russian-Egyptian exercises of paratroopers "Defenders of Friendship - 2021" have started in Egypt. This was reported by the Russian ministry of defense.
"The opening ceremony of the fifth joint Russian-Egyptian joint exercises of Russian airborne troops and Egyptian paratroopers "Defenders of Friendship - 2021" took place at the military base of paratroopers of the Arab Republic of Egypt (ARE) in the Cairo suburb of Inshas," the message says.
According to the Russian military department, more than 100 servicemen of the Guards airborne assault regiment of the Caucasian Cossacks of the Novorossiysk Guards airborne assault mountain compound, having covered more than 3,000 km, arrived at the military base of the Egyptian Armed Forces, where a combined airborne unit "will start to coordinate" starting on Tuesday.
A combined detachment of more than 500 servicemen as well as the IL-76MD airplanes of Russian Airborne Forces and C-130 Hercules and heavy military transport Chinook helicopters of Egyptian Air Force were involved in the exercise.
