Jordan’s King Abdullah II has reaffirmed the importance of rebuilding Gaza following the recent military conflict, while ensuring that residents of the Palestinian enclave are not displaced. He shared this stance in a statement on X after his meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House.
“During the meeting, I reiterated Jordan’s unwavering position against the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank. This stance is shared by all Arab nations. Our collective priority should be the reconstruction of Gaza without uprooting its residents and addressing the dire humanitarian situation in the region,” the monarch emphasized.
He added that Jordan remains committed to “working effectively with partners to achieve a fair and comprehensive peace for everyone in the region.”
In contrast, on February 4, during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Trump announced that the US was considering the long-term governance of Gaza to foster development for peace in the Middle East. He proposed the relocation of Gaza’s residents to other regional nations, suggesting that these countries could financially support the plan.
This idea faced widespread rejection from Arab states, Iran, and several Western countries. The Kremlin also noted its opposition, with Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stating that while Moscow is aware of Trump’s proposals, it aligns with the positions of Egypt and Jordan, which have dismissed the initiative.
