Kazakhstan and Russia Discuss Cooperation on Biological Security

Delegations from the foreign ministries of Kazakhstan and Russia held bilateral interagency consultations on biological security in Almaty, the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

 

“During the consultations, the two sides exchanged up-to-date information on the current state of biological security in both countries, reviewed prospects for further bilateral cooperation, and discussed practical steps to enhance collaboration. Special focus was given to scientific exchange, training of specialists, and joint efforts to monitor the epidemiological situation in border regions,” the statement said.

 

The delegations also held a constructive exchange of views on the next steps for Kazakhstan’s initiative to establish an International Agency for Biological Security, as well as Russia’s proposals to strengthen the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention.

 

Kazakhstan’s delegation was led by Arman Baisuanov, Director of the Department for International Security at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Russian side was represented by Konstantin Vorontsov, Deputy Director of the Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
