Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa told Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko in a telephone conversation that he was expecting Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit him and would like to visit Moscow himself. The chairman of the upper house of the Russian parliament spoke about the phone conversation on Monday before flying out of Bahrain.
"Due to important circumstances, the meeting [with the king, which had been planned] did not happen. But he called and said he was glad the delegation had come, that we were ready to continue contacts. He said he was waiting for our president to visit Bahrain. I would also like to be in Moscow and meet with him," said Matviyenko, who was on an official visit to Bahrain from December 4 to 6.
According to the speaker of the Federation Council, the King of Bahrain read the message of the Russian president, which she brought with her, thanked him for it and emphasized the special trusting nature of relations with the Russian head of state.
"He emphasized Russia's important role on the world stage, its consistent, balanced policy of maintaining stability. Stressed the special importance of Russian-Bahraini relations. He said that Bahrain is determined to develop them, to implement all the agreements that have been reached [earlier]," Matviyenko said.
