Kyrgyzstan is discussing with Russia the possibility of transferring COVID-19 vaccine production to the republic, Kyrgyz Health Minister Alymkadyr Beishenaliyev said at a press conference on Friday.
"Correspondence and negotiations are being held with the Russian side on the supply of Russian vaccines and the possibility of transferring vaccine production to the territory of Kyrgyzstan. There are plans for specialists to go to Russia to work on this issue," he said.
Earlier, the Ministry of Health reported that Russia agreed to supply 500,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccine to Kyrgyzstan free of charge. Also, 1.2 million doses will be provided to the republic as part of the international COVAX vaccine program.
The first cases of coronavirus were detected in Kyrgyzstan in March 2020. To date, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 83,703. There have been 1,396 deaths.
