Lavrentiev: the forceful response to Israeli bombing of Syrian territory is counterproductive

Russia opposes the illegal bombing of Syrian territories by Israel, but in this situation a forceful response to these actions is counterproductive. This was stated by the Special Representative of the Russian President for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev during a round table, which was held in Damascus within the framework of the visit of the Russian interdepartmental delegation.

The discussion "Syria in the global blockade. How to win the war and not lose the peace?" was attended by Syrian and Russian diplomats, representatives of state authorities and scientific and expert community.

"Regarding the question that was raised about the illegal bombing of Syrian territory by Israel. We categorically oppose these inhumane actions and call for contacts at all levels with the Israeli side about the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and to stop these bombings," he said, noting that "in this context a forceful response would be counterproductive because no one needs war on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic."

At the same time, he stressed that such Israeli actions go beyond international law.

"We can't turn Syria into a score-settling ground for any adversaries, including regional ones. That is why we will continue our work in this direction and will seek an unconditional cessation of these actions," Lavrentiev concluded.
