Lavrov and Araghchi Discuss Iranian Nuclear Program

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, held a phone call to review the current status of the Iranian nuclear program. According to a statement released by the Russian Foreign Ministry, the discussion focused on the recent indirect contacts between American and Iranian officials in Geneva.


During the conversation, Russia reaffirmed its support for a negotiation process aimed at finding equitable political and diplomatic solutions. This approach emphasizes the need to respect Iran’s legitimate rights while remaining strictly in line with the principles of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.


Beyond the nuclear dossier, the two ministers addressed several specific items on the bilateral agenda that are of mutual interest to Moscow and Tehran. The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the call was initiated by the Iranian side.
