Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Rafael Grossi, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), discussed the situation around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program in Vienna on Thursday.
"During the conversation, they exchanged views on the main directions of the agency's activities, including issues of the peaceful use of atomic energy, the reform of the IAEA safeguards system, as well as the situation with the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to resolve the Iranian nuclear program," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.
As the Russian MFA pointed out, the meeting "demonstrated a high level of understanding and cooperation".
Negotiations between Iran and the international "five" (Russia, Britain, China, France and Germany) on the problem of restoration of the Iranian nuclear agreement in its original form have been held in Vienna since April. The parties are discussing the removal of US sanctions against Iran, the fulfillment of Iran's nuclear obligations, and the return of the US to the JCPOA. Representatives of the states participating in the agreement are also holding separate consultations with the US delegation without Iranian participation. Initially, the delegations expected to conclude their work in late May and then in early June.
