Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with the foreign ministers of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger—members of the Alliance of Sahel States.
(AES)—to discuss collaboration in security and counterterrorism. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 80th UN General Assembly session.
The Russian foreign ministry reported a broad exchange of views covering priority areas for cooperation, including the deepening of political dialogue, expanded interaction in security, trade and economic matters, humanitarian issues, and other fields.
Discussions focused in detail on the situation in the Sahara-Sahel region, with particular emphasis on combating terrorist threats. The ministers confirmed their commitment to bolstering foreign policy coordination in international fora, notably in the UN Security Council and General Assembly.
