15 October 2021

Russia is interested in continuing consultations with Israel on security in the Middle East. This was stated in an article by Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov on the 30th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Russia and Israel, published Friday in the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.

"We are interested in continuing consultations with Israeli partners on security and stability in the Middle East. We always draw attention to the fact that comprehensive solutions to the problems of the Middle East region must necessarily take into account Israel's security interests," Lavrov said. - "This is a matter of principle".

The foreign ministry's head also noted that Moscow is convinced that there is no alternative to the two-state principle of settling the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Russia supports direct negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis, because only through them all final status issues can be resolved, the minister added.

"We are ready to work with our Israeli colleagues in multilateral formats as well, primarily in the context of resuming the activity of the Quartet of international mediators for the Middle East settlement in close cooperation with representatives of the Arab League," Lavrov summarized.
