The peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump for the Gaza Strip does not provide a definitive solution to the Palestinian issue, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, adding that such a situation “does not inspire optimism.”
“We welcomed the steps taken by President Trump, and most importantly, the results of the first stage of his initiative — people and captives were released, and bodies were returned to be laid to rest in accordance with religious traditions,” Lavrov stated during a diplomatic roundtable on the Ukraine settlement.
“But now we are all waiting for the beginning of the second stage, and the fact that this plan — despite its humanitarian focus — does not propose a final, reliable resolution of the Palestinian issue in line with UN resolutions is, of course, far from encouraging,” the minister added.
