Lavrov: US and Iran Interested in Shifting Middle East Situation Toward Peace

26 June

Both Washington and Tehran are interested in steering the situation in the Middle East toward a peaceful resolution, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

“It seems to me that everyone is now interested in moving the situation into a political channel,” Lavrov stated at a press conference following talks with Lao Foreign Minister Thongloun Phomvihane.

He noted, “US President Donald Trump has expressed a desire to play a mediating role between Israel and Iran. Iran, in turn, has said that if Israel refrains from resuming military actions, it will adhere to the ceasefire.”
