On Thursday, activists of Lebanese patriotic parties held a meeting of solidarity with Russia in front of the Russian embassy in Beirut, Lebanon. A TASS correspondent reported from the scene that the participants came to the building of the diplomatic mission during an iftar - evening fasting after the day's abstinence from food during the Muslim fasting period of Ramadan.
"Russia, we are with you and your leader Vladimir Putin!", the activists chanted. They held candles and torches as the city cut off electricity at night due to fuel oil shortages.
"The Arab peoples remember well the crimes committed by the US military in the Middle East, so we take a firm stand on the side of Russia opposing the global conspiracy of the United States and NATO," said General Mustafa Hamdan, leader of the popular Murabitun (pan-Arab socialist movement) movement.
According to him, Russia has prevented NATO's aggressive plans with its military operation in Ukraine. "We will soon learn about all the atrocities of the Americans and their accomplices among the Ukrainian Nazis," he said.
As activist Nasser Heydar noted in a conversation with TASS correspondent, Arabs cannot be indifferent to what is happening in Ukraine because Russia has always been their friend and has assisted in the construction of important economic facilities. "We see Russian President Vladimir Putin as a leader who will free the world from American shackles," he stressed. - "All our hopes for the future are linked to the name of Putin."
Since the beginning of March in Beirut, Batrun, Nabatia, Tyre and other cities several mass events of the Lebanese public and compatriot organizations were held in support of the Russian military operation. On March 20, a rally was held in the center of the capital in front of the headquarters of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia. At the end of the event, participants adopted a proclamation condemning the anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the West, which was handed over to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
