Media: armed militants take key village in Mali

13 April 2023

Militants of the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (IS-GS) terrorist group, which is affiliated with the Islamic State (IS, banned in the Russian Federation), have taken Tiderman in northeastern Mali, Maghreb Arabe Press reported on Wednesday, citing local officials.

Seizing Tiderman, located north of the town of Menaka, allowed the terrorists to consolidate in this part of the country. According to observers, the IS-GS is expanding its zone of influence, killing civilians. In addition, residents have been forced to leave their homes and flee to neighboring areas, including to the border with Niger.

Armed fighters are currently patrolling the streets in Tiderman neighborhoods.

Since early 2022, the IS-GS has been conducting a major offensive in the Menaka and Gao regions.

The armed conflict between Malian authorities and extremist and separatist groups began in 2012.
