A collaborative delegation comprising representatives from the United Nations (UN), the African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is set to visit Niger in the near future, as reported by Radio France International (RFI).
"A new delegation is scheduled to visit the capital of Niger for discussions. This time, it will be a troika composed of representatives from ECOWAS, the African Union and the UN. Three envoys from these institutions are expected to travel to Niamey soon. Their purpose is to engage with the coup leaders on behalf of the international community," the report stated.
During a summit in the Nigerian capital of Abuja on July 30, members of ECOWAS condemned the coup in Niger and issued a one-week ultimatum to the rebels, urging them to restore constitutional rule. Failure to comply would result in potential measures, including the use of force. However, as the ultimatum's deadline passed, it was decided to convene another ECOWAS meeting on August 10 in Nigeria.
