Media: Sudan army suspends talks with special forces in Jeddah

31 May 2023

The Sudanese army is suspending its participation in the negotiations with the rapid support force (special forces) in Jeddah, Al-Hadath reported on Wednesday.

The channel reports that the army informed the US and Saudi Arabia, which are mediating in the negotiation process, about their decision and called on them to put pressure on the special forces to fulfill the terms of the humanitarian truce. According to the channel, the reason for this decision was the special forces' refusal to withdraw their fighters from hospitals and residential houses. Sources in the Sudanese armed forces had previously reported that this was the main condition imposed by the army on the rapid support forces during the negotiation process of the humanitarian truce.

The special forces, for their part, held the AF responsible for violating the terms of the temporary ceasefire, which was extended for another five days on Monday. According to an official statement by a spokesman for the rapid support force on Twitter, the army attacked several positions of the special forces and fired artillery in the areas of Omdurman and North Khartoum.
