Media: Trump to Meet Qatari Prime Minister to Discuss Gaza Ceasefire

16 July

US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet on Wednesday with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, to discuss progress in negotiations over a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages. The news was reported by Axios correspondent Barak Ravid, citing a source.

Earlier on Monday, Trump held a phone call with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. According to the source, Trump and the Qatari prime minister also plan to discuss the possibility of resuming direct US–Iran talks aimed at reaching a new agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program.

Qatar has been one of the key mediators in talks between Israel and Hamas. On July 6, with Qatari, Egyptian, and US mediation, both sides resumed discussions in Doha aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza.

According to a spokesperson for Qatar’s foreign ministry, the consultations are still at an early stage, with mediators holding separate talks with Hamas and Israel to develop a framework agreement that could pave the way for the next phase of indirect negotiations.
