Minnikhanov discussed cooperation with Emir of Qatar

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov discussed cooperation within the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World" with Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the press service of the head of the republic reports.


Minnikhanov is in Qatar, where December 18 is National Day, as a guest of honor.


"Rustam Minnikhanov congratulated the emir and people of the state on Qatar National Day," the report said.


Minnikhanov pointed out that Russia attaches great importance to interaction with the Islamic world, with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. "Relations between Russia and Qatar are developing progressively. At its level, Tatarstan tries to contribute to strengthening Russia-Qatar relations," said the head of the republic.


The parties discussed cooperation issues within the framework of the activities of the GSV "Russia - Islamic World", which Minnikhanov chairs on behalf of the Russian president.


At the invitation of the Qatari side, Minnikhanov visited the festival of Qatari culture "Darb Al Saai" and met with Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman Al Thani. He noted that issues of preserving the cultural and civilizational identity of peoples is one of the important areas of work of the group of strategic vision. Qatar, he said, as a permanent member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, is an important and reliable partner of Russia in the Middle East region.
