Rustam Minnikhanov, the Rais of Tatarstan, met with Walid Hamid Shiltagh, Head of the Arab League Mission in Moscow, who holds the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. The meeting took place at the Kazan Kremlin.
Minnikhanov thanked the ambassador for visiting Kazan to attend the 16th KazanForum.
“Our forum becomes more dynamic and engaging every year. I am confident that your participation and your time in Tatarstan will be productive and beneficial,” he said.
He highlighted that Tatarstan actively develops ties with the Islamic world, maintaining strong connections through the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The republic’s trade turnover with OIC member states has reached $8 billion.
Minnikhanov emphasized the significant potential for expanding cooperation between Tatarstan and the Arab League.
“We have a lot to offer our partners from the Arab world,” he noted.
During the conversation, the two sides discussed the expansion of trade and economic cooperation, as well as prospects in Islamic finance, the halal industry, and the strengthening of humanitarian and cultural ties.
The of Arab League is a regional intergovernmental organization founded in 1945. It brings together 22 member states, with the primary goal of promoting closer relations, cooperation, and political coordination among its members, while protecting their independence and sovereignty.
Walid Hamid Shiltagh has headed the Arab League Mission in Moscow since 2024.
