Mishustin to Meet with Kyrgyz Prime Minister

21 October

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will hold talks with Kyrgyz Prime Minister Akylbek Zhaparov to discuss key issues related to Russian-Kyrgyz trade, economic relations, and cultural cooperation, as well as their collaboration within the Eurasian Economic Union.

Zhaparov arrived in Russia for an official visit on October 19, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region within the RSFSR, and the celebration of Kyrgyz Culture Days in Russia. This meeting follows their recent encounter less than a month ago at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Yerevan on October 1.

According to the Russian government, 20% of Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade is with Russia. In 2023, bilateral trade between the two nations increased by 5.6%, reaching $3.6 billion, with positive growth continuing this year. The Russian government also noted the significant potential for expanding cooperation in areas such as finance, industry, agriculture, transportation, digital technology, and energy. Russia, for instance, fully meets Kyrgyzstan's needs for petroleum products, including gasoline, jet fuel, diesel, and bitumen. Additionally, the “General Scheme for Gas Supply and Gasification of Kyrgyzstan until 2030” is being implemented with the participation of Gazprom. Over 80 Russian regions are involved in supporting these economic ties.

Humanitarian cooperation between the two countries is also on the rise. Since 2023, work has been underway in Kyrgyzstan to establish nine schools where instruction will be in Russian. These schools will follow both Russian and Kyrgyz educational standards, allowing graduates to receive diplomas recognized in both countries.
