Search teams in Russia's Novgorod Region have identified the names of more than 150 Kazakh soldiers who perished during World War II. This discovery was part of long-standing cooperation aimed at preserving historical memory. According to the Novgorod Region's Ministry of Investment Policy, nine search teams from Kazakhstan have participated in joint expeditions with local teams over the years.
"Through decades of collaborative efforts to preserve shared historical memory, search teams have identified 151 Kazakh soldiers through personal items such as identification medallions, awards, and belongings. These soldiers were conscripted from Kazakhstan and fought on the front lines," the ministry reported.
A Kazakh delegation recently joined the "Path of Heroes of the Volkhov Front" military-historical memorial march. Participants traversed key battlegrounds in the Novgorod Region, visited local museums, and attended a ceremony for reinterring the remains of Red Army soldiers.
During a closing ceremony in Novgorod's Kremlin, the delegation received the identification medallion of Ignaty Kravchenko, a soldier of the 310th Novgorod Rifle Division. Kravchenko, conscripted from the Kazakh SSR, was killed in January 1944 during the liberation of Novgorod. The search expedition "Dolina" also presented a list of 35 additional soldiers whose remains had been identified and whose relatives had been located in Kazakhstan.
This collaboration underscores the enduring commitment of both nations to honor the memory of those who sacrificed their lives during the war.
