NATO to Open Middle East Office in the Coming Months

17 September

NATO is set to establish an office in Amman, Jordan, within the next few months, to enhance communication with Middle Eastern countries. The office will operate similarly to an embassy, facilitating better political engagement and information gathering.

“This embassy will help us collect political information, talk to people, and better understand how the situation is evolving. We may also have opportunities to establish a presence in other countries if some southern partners express interest,” said Javier Colomina, NATO's special representative for Africa and the Middle East, in an interview with The National.

Colomina emphasized that NATO's increased focus on the Middle East will not affect its support for Ukraine. He noted the widespread instability in various regions and highlighted NATO’s core strengths in defense and security policy as crucial tools for addressing global concerns.
