Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has requested a delegation of religious leaders from Nigeria to once again travel to Niger for discussions with the rebel groups. The Nigerian newspaper Vanguard reported this, citing Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau, the leader of the delegation.
Following their return to Abuja, the delegates engaged in discussions with President Tinubu regarding the results of the talks held in Niger. During the meeting, the president endorsed the proposal for the delegation to undertake another visit to Niamey for further engagements.
"He (Bola Tinubu - TASS note) valued our efforts and reaffirmed our mandate to continue the dialogue <...> with the rebel leadership," Sheikh Abdullahi Balou Lau was quoted as saying by the publication.
