Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Colonel General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov visited Niger as part of a delegation, where Russian representatives of the defense ministry were welcomed by the Minister of National Defense of the country, General Salifou Modi. The meeting took place on December 3 at Niamey's international airport, as reported by Niger's state media.
According to the state agency ANP, the encounter occurred during a working visit by representatives of the Russian Defense Ministry to Niger. The ANP further notes that since the military assumed power in the West African republic, "relations between Niger and Russia have strengthened," particularly in the joint efforts against terrorism.
As per the media resource of the collective defense organization "Alliance of Sahel States," Yevkurov had previously visited Niger's neighboring countries, Mali and Burkina Faso.
