Pakistan PM’s Aide Delivers Letter from Sharif to Putin During Moscow Visit

03 June

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Syed Tariq Fatemi, delivered a letter from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the Pakistani Embassy told TASS.

“The Special Assistant handed over a letter from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed to President Vladimir Putin,” the diplomatic mission confirmed.

Fatemi also conveyed the Prime Minister’s warm regards and reiterated Pakistan’s interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation with Russia across a wide range of areas, including energy, transport connectivity, trade, and more, the embassy said. “He also briefed the Russian Foreign Minister in detail on recent developments in South Asia,” the statement added.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated following a terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, located in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. In response, on the night of May 7, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, striking nine targets linked to militants in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Pakistan retaliated with counterstrikes. On May 10, both sides agreed to a ceasefire and to explore options for reducing troop deployments along the border.
