The Economic Coordination Committee under the Government of Pakistan (ECC) on Monday approved the purchase of 450 thousand tons of Russian wheat by the national trading corporation. This was reported by the Pakistani newspaper Doon on Tuesday.

According to the newspaper, the decision was made at a regular meeting of the ECC, chaired by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. The supplier of grain will be the Russian state-owned company Foreign Trade Association Prodintorg, which is not under international sanctions. The cost of wheat will be $372 per ton. Deliveries will go through the Pakistani port of Gwadar from February 1 to March 31, 2023.

According to newspaper calculations, this deal will bring the total volume of grain supplies from Russia to Pakistan to the level of 750 thousand tons. This makes Russia the largest supplier of wheat to the Pakistani market.
